Last Tuesday, the province of Santa Fe participated in the R20 Austrian World Summit, with the aim of delineating actions to meet the UN's sustainable development goals and the global climate protection measures set out in the Paris agreement.

In the opening were present the Minister of the Environment, Jacinto Speranza; the Secretary of State for Energy, Veronica Geese; and the provincial director of Climate Change, Eduardo Roude. The activities were carried out at the auditorium of Hofburg in Vienna.

After participating in the opening and scheduled meetings with government representatives from other countries, Speranza said, "From the provincial government we are committed to generate responses to a climate reality that imposes new conditions for the development of most of the social and productive activities."

"This meeting, with relevant stakeholders from around the world, reaffirms the commitment to our sustainability projects and serves us to strengthen the reference work plan for activities, vulnerability identification and adaptation and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)", added the minister.

On the other hand, Geese explained, "This summit shows the need for any policy for climate change to be integral, involving different sectors. All actors must work together and coordinately. That actions on climate change are successful, not only depends on the productive and economic sectors, but also on the state and provincial sectors."

The Secretary of state added, "The provinces have a lot to do and they can achieve the best results with climate change policies, because they are the ones closest to people. In Santa Fe we already know and that is why we are on this summit representing the province", she concluded.

THE SUMMIT
R20 Austrian World Summit is a long-term initiative to create a network platform that will help regions, states and cities implement the UN Sustainable Development goals and meet the global climate protection goals outlined in the Paris agreement. The goal is to increase alliances and exchange experiences and ideas with new states. In 2017, the first summit was held in the Hofburg Vienna with the participation 700 people from 50 nations.

This annual event is organized by Arnold Schwarzenegger's "R20 Regions of Climate Action" office in Austria. The summit brings together international leaders in politics, companies, investors, civil society, academics, new companies and climate experts, as well as representatives from regions and cities around the world.

On 25 September 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nations agreed on Agenda 2030 for sustainable development, which consists of a set of 169 objectives, including ending poverty and hunger, improving health and education, combating climate change and promoting sustainable economic growth. The 194 member States of the United Nations agreed to start acting immediately to reach the objectives for 2030.
