Santa Fe in Finland: Balagué carried out a balance of the educational mission in the Nordic country

The Minister of Education held a press conference with the delegation of headteachers that took the master degree. "A characteristic of Finland's education is its thoroughness in teacher training," said Balagué.

Balagué carried out a balance of the educational mission in the Nordic country

The Minister of Education, Claudia Balagué, analyzed the educational mission carried out in Finland during the week that started on September 24. She remarked that education in the Nordic country is characterized by rigorous training in teaching, interdisciplinarity, transversal matters and flexible educational spaces.

The officer was accompanied by the provincial Director of Curricular Development and Academic Relations, Silvia Morelli; and two directors who were taking the master degree  and who were part of the entourage, Patricia Cafaro, school N º 1110 "Simón de Iriondo" from Santo Tome, and Alejandrina Giovagnoli, from the 692 professional Technical School of Cañada de Gómez, who were part of the delegation that travelled to Finland.

"We wanted to do an evaluation of the master degree we have been taking since 2015 with headteachers at the National University of Litoral (UNL) and through an agreement with the Finnish University of Tampere to analyze the final thesis projects that are developing the 60 directors who are completing the final stage, mainly to tell how these experiences apply in their own schools," said the minister.

FINNISH TEACHERS
Balagué mentioned, “In the itinerary we visited a teacher training college, a primary and a secondary school, where we also saw the flexible educational spaces, the transversal matters and the interdisciplinary work that here in Santa Fe we have developed to through the Nics".

In addition, she explained that they also visited the University of Helsinki, which he described as "the most important and ancient of Finland. There were we also able to make a collaboration agreement strictly on teacher training; we are working with recognized teachers as Jari Lavonen".

Before a journalistic consultation, she emphasized; "One of the characteristics of education in Finland is mainly teacher training, which has a very important rigor; almost no one can access a teaching degree if they do not have a postgraduate or master degree. "

"For subjects that we used to consider simple, such as housekeeping, there is a master degree to teach them. Children are taught, for example, to cook, iron, work independently in their daily lives. Where they are taught Spanish food, there are contents of history, geography, culture of that country. That's why it has such intense training, because it's not a single subject, but it encompasses several areas," explained Balagué.

TOUR
The delegation also went to Vaasa, where they visited the Abo Akademi, a University of Swedish origin that is developing its educational practice with several offices in Finland. "We participated in an international seminar with representatives from several countries and we, from the province of Santa Fe, analysed and shared on public education policies," said the minister.

Finally, the mission visited the University of Turku, where the method Antibullying Kiva was addressed. "We reached a first agreement to share experiences between the trainers of that method and members of our ministerial Lazos program, specialized in prevention of violence, to deepen the Antibullying work in Santa Fe. We believe that with this proven and specialized method we will be able to make a new contribution to the provincial schools, especially in those where there were resonant cases," she emphasized.

OWN EXPERIENCES
On the other hand, Alejandrina Giovagnoli mentioned that it was a turning point for the teachers who were studying this master because it allowed us to rethink our own management, our role and, from there, generate some strategies of changes towards the teachers and, through them, towards the students that are the most important thing we have in institutions. "

"We have populations of particular students, therefore, the theory of narrative that the Finnish professor Eero Ropo presented was very important. “It is essential to be able to distance yourself a little and think about that student who needs to be heard”, said the headteacher of Cañada de Gómez, who already applies some of his postgraduate knowledge to that technical school.

Meanwhile, Patricia Cafaro, stressed,"All aspects that are intended to be developed in education are seen by them as very long and complex processes; and they make a bet on the shared work or peer teaching, i.e. not alone. A work that faces two teachers, with shared planning and a lot of knowledge building. "

Finally, Minister Balagué remarked that from Santa Fe it was never thought of "extrapolating" Finnish teaching experiences. "What we take fundamentally is that rigour in teacher training in Finland. Our own headteachers are already doing free postgraduate courses, offered by the Ministry of Education with local universities, and in some way,  this reinforces that training that is important to us. "

The mission was organized by the coordination of Education International Affairs Unit and the Ministry of International Relations of the provincial government and was financed by the Federal Investment Council (FIC).
