This is the largest voluntary initiative of corporate social responsibility in the world. The meeting was held in the city of Rosario

At the Rosario Town Hall, the Secretary of Labor and Social security, Leonardo Panozzo, and Mayor Mónica Fein, participated in the opening of the United Nations Global Compact Conference, which discussed the initiative that aims to become a tool for the construction of sustainability.

The opening was attended by the Coordinator of the Argentine Network for United Nations Global Compact, Flavio Fuertes, and the councillor of the city of Rosario, Verónica Irizar.

Panozzo ratified "the commitment of the Government of Santa Fe, not only with the adherence to the pact but in reaching the objectives it postulates. Social dialogue and corporate social responsibility are the basic pillars of the Global Compact and in the province of Santa Fe has reached very important consensus from these pillars, as is the case of the Acuerdo Santafesino".

"In these times it seems that talking about agreements is going in the opposite direction of history and reality. There is a government that calls for social dialogue, which can be crude and gritty, but which derives from State policy strategies; that means that when there is political will, dialogue governs the destinies of the peoples. There is an ethical and political commitment of the province of Santa Fe to build a future in a present and in a territory," said Panozzo.

On the other hand, Mayor Fein remarked "the importance of understanding that dialogue and trust between the public and private sectors must be generated from common work. That is why the commitment of the Ministry of Labour is also noteworthy, since building a world of agreements with trade unions and business organizations is very valuable.

"One of the goals posed by the Global Compact is to build inclusive cities. Rosario has taken this challenge, guaranteeing rights from the social economy. Adhesion means that we want to beyond, that we want to continue improving and that all our public policies have to do with the fulfillment of the objectives of sustainable development," he said.

"Rosario was the first municipal government to adhere to the principles of the Global Compact in Argentina so it is so important to carry out this activity here," insisted Fuertes.

On his part, Fuertes said, "We are convinced that social dialogue, climate change, the future of employment, or migration are resolved jointly and not seeking individual solutions. The Global Compact seeks to address the way companies do business and orientate them towards sustainable development. "

ABOUT THE GLOBAL COMPACT
The UN Global Compact is an instrument that has 13,000 signatory entities in more than 170 countries, thus becoming the largest voluntary initiative of corporate social responsibility in the world.

The initiative aims at the commitment of companies, academic institutions and civil society organizations to comply with ten principles to protect human rights, to guarantee the best labour standards, to preserve the environment, and fight corruption.

The government of the province of Santa Fe, through Governor Miguel Lifschitz, subscribed to the initiative in 2016, which makes it an articulator and diffuser.

To this end, the management programs are assessed and lined up to the principles and objectives of sustainable development, a work that was reflected in the Communication of Involvement (COE) of the province, presented last February.
