Perotti and Cabandié sign an agreement to expand the area of the National Park "Islas de Santa Fe"

In Buenos Aires, the governor of the province and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, have signed the commitment to increase to 10,000 hectares the protected area located in the Ramsar site "Delta del Paraná".

Governor Omar Perotti and the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, Juan Cabandié, signed an agreement to promote the expansion of the Santa Fe Islands National Park. The initiative aims to increase the protected area from 4,096 hectares to 10,000 hectares.

The event was held at the headquarters of the national portfolio in the city of Buenos Aires, and was attended by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Érika Gonnet; the Secretary of Federal Management, Candelaria González del Pino; the chairman of the board of directors of the National Park Administration, Lautaro Erratchu; the Secretary of Environmental Policies, Oreste Blangini; and the Director of Territorial Development, María Josefina Obeid.

After the signing, Gonnet said that "the expansion of the Santa Fe Islands National Park will not only allow progress in the conservation of the protected area, but will also be the basis for the promotion of tourist, scientific and educational activities."

Cabandié celebrated the agreement and highlighted: "Since we assumed our duties, we have committed to protect the Delta area. That is why we add park rangers, and install conservation spots" and said: "We work in an articulated way with the provinces to take care of the protected areas."

It should be noted that the minutes establish that the operational, logistical and technical capacities will be coordinated to carry out surveys for the preparation of the expansion project of the Park; determining the zoning of the protected area, defining the conservation areas and those intended for public use and tourism.

"SANTA FE ISLANDS"

The National Park was created in 2010, through National Law No. 26,648, and is located in the Ramsar site "Delta del Paraná", with the aim of protecting the ecosystem of the area. It currently has 4,096 hectares.

Santa Fe, through Provincial Law No. 12,175, has a Provincial System of Protected Natural Areas that provides for the categories of Protected Landscape, Provincial Park, Strict Nature Reserve, Managed Nature Reserve, Natural Water Reserve and Private Reserve, among others, according to the general conservation objectives pursued.
