Santa Fe presents its proposals in Germany to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

The Secretary of State for Energy of Santa Fe, Veronica Geese, has presented the proposals of the provincial government for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, in a meeting held in Germany, in the context of the COP23 that took place in the city of Bonn.

Geese´s presentation described the actions that integrate the policies set by Argentina to achieve the commitment made by signing the Paris agreement in 2015, against climate change.

The Secretary of State detailed the initiatives already implemented in the provincial territory to mitigate the polluting gases:  the Programa Pueblos Bioenergéticos (Bioenergy Towns Programme), for the generation of biogas using manure generated by swine production; More Energetic Production, aimed at reducing the consumption of fossil fuels for heating in pig-rearing establishments and feedlots by the use of biogas generated from the biodigestion of slurries and manure; and the initiatives that propose the increase of cut with biofuel in public transport and captive fleets, among others.

She also reported on the Certifications of Energy Efficiency of properties that already began in Rosario and will extend to other cities in the province. This initiative is complemented with trainings to professional architects and engineers responsible for the surveys. In addition, she explained that media campaigns and talks were held to the public to raise awareness about the efficient use of energy.

Geese remarked, "Our initiatives for the efficient use of energy, generation and employment of renewable energies aim to reduce emissions that cause global warming and are originated using fossil fuels. These gases are the ones that seriously affect human health".

Then she added, "These proposals collaborate with the growth of our provincial economy because they add value to agricultural production by treating their pollutant waste and effluents to generate energy. In this way, we managed to complete the cycle of circular economy in a province with a great bioenergetic potential.

INTERNATIONAL COMMITMENT
The proposals presented by Santa Fe are also part of the commitment signed by the province to meet the objectives in the UNDER2 Coalition against climate change. This international body confirmed and communicated the incorporation of the province of Santa Fe as a new Member State, which allows it to reach the 205 jurisdictions in 43 countries and which collectively represents 1.3 trillion of the world population.

ATTENDEES
In the meeting held at the United Nations pavilion, as part of the United Nations Programme for Sustainable Development (UNDP), the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation, Sergio Bergman, was also among other authorities of the national government and the provinces of Jujuy and Tierra Del Fuego.
